No, I haven't gone out in the woods looking for a turkey but they are hard to find in stores around here in September. Chad is giving a speech on how to do something and as he usually does, he makes it difficult. He's giving his speech on how to fry a turkey so he (WE) will get up at 5:30 Tuesday morning so he can fry his turkey, then I will bring it to school at the designated time. The grocery stores around here didn't have their turkeys yet and we were about to give up but I found one at Wal-Mart this evening. Solved that potential problem!
I finished the top I was making for the wrecker driver but I just think it looks too much like Christmas. I really like it. I had planned to quilt it using Baptist Fans but I see where feathers would look really good in those background areas. Dad told me last week that Randy's favorite color is green. I was pretty shocked since I hadn't known that when I started this top and the backing I found with the old tow trucks is green. I started another quilt for him that will have green but not red so it won't look so much like Christmas. Here's the blocks I have done so far.
And, here's what the whole quilt should look like. Thoughts?

Well I think the first one is really nice, I don't know if it looks to much like Christmas, and how knows maybe Christmas is his favorite time of the year. Both are nice and I think he would be happy with either. Dot
I love both and I don't think the first one is really "Christmasy". I think the one with the trees is very "Christmasy". -Rosaline
I think both are great. But I have to say I don't see the first one as Christmasy. In fact the trees on the second one say "Christmas" to me more than the first one does.
I like both quilts. I think the trees could look like Christmas too, though! *LOL*
I think you should stay with the one you planned for him all along,especially with the special backing fabric. Otherwise you may always be wondering if you gave him the right quilt. And it doesn't make me think of Christmas as much as the trees. With winter and Christmas at the same time it may serve a double purpose anyway.

My vote goes with the comments so far - the first one is the right one to give him. It does not look Christmasy as much as the trees do. I think the first one looks more "manly" also.
I like both quilts - the first one didn't particularly scream Christmas at me but I love tree quilts. I like the alternate block too - it's just a little different than the usual *chain* type block.
I don't think the first one looks too much like Christmas, either, but I REALLY like the trees!

The first one, the first one, the first one!!! I think the first one looks like it has "roads" on it with the zig zags - my Little Boy LOVES to drive his trucks on zig zag quilts! You can make your little trees into a darling Christmas wall hanging...
And too funny of Chad to come up with a way to eat fried turkey! My brother likes to fry his Thanksgiving turkey too.

I have to agree with everyone else. The tree quilt looks more Christmas-y to me. If his favorite color is green, then I think it's fate. You have to send it to him. Besides, don't you think he'll love it no matter what?
I like the first one for the wrecker guy -- it just looks like a cool pattern for a guy.
The second one -- can we do that one as a one-hour for November or December? vbg

I like both quilts. I have a lot of red and green in my home so I don't go to Christmasy right away like many of the others have said.
Isn't it funny how hard it is to find a turkey if it's not Thanksgiving or Christmas? For several years we celebrated Christmas on the 2nd Thursday in December due to work conflicts with our daughter. After the first year, I quickly learned to buy 2 turkeys at Thanksgiving as there were NONE available the first week in December.
A. to me hte trees have a Christmas look to them too...
B. Red & Green are complimentary - not just Christmas.
C. I have no problem giving a Christmas looking quilt - if nothing else it could be used for Christmas decorating as well as regular use...
(Real example - my wedding flowers were red roses - so I made my brides maids red, green, & white quilts - the look Christmassy, but the are abundant in rose prints too...)
My final note, the finished top does not look Christmassy to me...
I forgot - fried turkey - did I miss something?
