Boring Quilter

Several quilters have posted pictures of neat and interesting pin cushions that they use. I'm so boring! Here's what I use. The one on the right is a plain Jane probably Wal-Mart magnetic pin holder with the fine glass head pins that I love. It sits beside my sewing machine. The one on the left is a lid to a pounce pad container and it holds the flower head pins that I use at the longarm. Now you know that I have boring pin cushions!

Sometimes I think I'm the luckiest person I know and sometimes I think I've just gotten darned good at making lemonade out of lemons or improvising.

Hobby Lobby has their 40% off coupon this week (they have it just about every other week) so I decided to get backing fabric for my Leaf Season quilt. I found this perfect leaf fabric. Oh, it's so perfect .. don't you think? But there was only 4 yards - not quite enough for a 75" x 95" quilt. I looked around and kept coming back to that fabric. The lady told me she could see if she could get more from another store. Nope, I want to quilt it tomorrow! Then I was over in the Christmas fabric (for no particular reason) and I found this tone on tone tan fabric. I thought maybe that would work and there was plenty of that. Walked by the leaf fabric one more time, just hoping I had miscounted and there was more fabric than I thought and I realized they match perfectly. The two fabrics are part of a collection and the tone on tone is exactly the same as the leaf background so that works! I can piece the backing. Oh, but the 40% off coupon is only good for one item and this would be two. This fabric was $8/yard. The nice lady just added the yardage together and wrote it up as one so I got the discount.

And, Taco Bell (my favorite reastaurant) is right there by Hobby Lobby so I treated myself to dinner out.

I got a lot of quilting done on a customer quilt today and I can finish it in the morning and by the time the leaf backing fabric is washed and dried, I should be ready to load it all and quilt it.

Wow, you did good on that backing! I went tonight and picked up the backing for Lisa's quilt. I got what was left on the bolt, and I think with some judicious piecing, that it'll work.

You like Taco Bell? That surprises me, I guess because you're such a wonderful cook! I tell you what -- when I come to visit, I'll treat you to Taco Bell every single day if you bake bread for me! LOL

So where do you find Hobby Lobby coupons? JoAnne's has a mailing list and sends them out both snail and email. How does HL do it?

The leaf fabric is really nice. These two fabrics will look good as the backing on Leaf quilt. Dot

the leaf print fabric is perfect for your quilt. Lucky you being able to use the coupon for both fabrics.

I really like the leaf fabric, it'll look great with the quilt.

Good job on the fabric hunt, you did great! Those glass head pins you use are my favourites too, they can't be beat!

Great buy on the fabric. Isn't it nice when the salesperson understands exactly what we want.
I've always used the corsage pins, I didn't know they had flower headed ones large enough to use on the LA.

Not boring Judy, just inspired in a different way....... Anyone can buy an interesting pincushion but not many people can design quilts. And even fewer are willing to share so readily...........

I wonder how many of your friends will send you pincushions now?

My pincusion - guess what it is? Yep, one of those red magnetic ones from Wal-mart. LOL! Guess I'm boring too.

And I love Taco Bell. Especially their chicken quesadellas.

You have a leg up on me, because I don't have any pin cushions, except that tomato thing. I bought a box from a dollar store and that is where I store my pins. Works for me.
That backing fabric is beautiful. Would be good for a front too. I'm so glad that they match so perfectly and that you were able to get a good deal for both.
Taco Bell is my daughter's favorite place. We have to go there all the time.

Great to be able to get the fabric you really want even if you do have to piece it a bit. That just makes the back a little bit more interesting.

I too have boring pin magnetic pin holders.

maybe it's because fabric is so expensive over here but I'm loathe to use such gorgeous fabrics on the back of a quilt - they're way too nice to hide away :o)

Woo hoo - things are back to normal - I've been trying to leave comments for the past couple of weeks on all sorts of your posts and it just wouldn't let me - okay now though :o)

hmmmm... I printed out the Hobby Lobby coupon but haven't used it. I should go check to see what they have. Love the Oct hour quilt. BTW, when I spellcheck "JudyL" in blogger it wants to replace it with "cuddles"! /paula

How great of her to give you the discount on both pieces!

Lucky you to have an understanding clerk AND to find 2 beautiful, co-ordinating fabrics! I've never even SEEN a Hobby Lobby - that looks like very nice fabric! I think a magnetic pin cusion would be a good thing - or a magnetic broom to "sweep" the floor with every now and then!

Nice of her to count both fabrics together for the discount. Can't wait to see the quilting on Leaf Season.

i love the leaf pattern fabric.
Judy I have often said, there is no way I could move someplace that didn't have a taco bell.
I am so addicted to the new Baja Blast mountain dew they have too

No fancy pin cushions here either. What works for me is a basic mechanics bowl...the magnet is so strong it stays put on my longarm when I'm pinning.
