Sewing Machine Fever

I went to the quilt shop this morning to drop off quilts and pick up others. I bought *nothing* at the quilt shop. Went by the yarn shop in the next town and bought yarn to make a cap.

On the way home, I stopped by the local sewing machine shop to get oil for the longarm. They had the Janome 6600 machine on sale. I've been wanting this machine badly and this is the best price I've seen.

I don't technically need a new sewing machine. I technically want a new sewing machine. I want that built in even feed system.

I have enough sewing machines to last me a life time and all I ever do is make 1/4" seams. That's it! No button holes, no machine quilting, no fancy smancy stitches.

I don't need a new sewing machine, do I? Doesn't stop me from wanting it.

Want and need are two different things. How much are you going to use the even feed feature? I do know that struggle you are experiencing right now. You will make the right choice. Dot

I'm with you! I have been eyeing that machine for a while... but I ain't gonna buy it unless mine dies or I can pay cash upfront.

Although besides straight stitching, I would absolutely adore the larger throat space for free-motioning.

Gotta keep dreaming! ;)

Needs, wants and wishes. Which one is it? Probably, like me, it is wishes. I wish for a longarm. Aint gonna happen any time soon.

Have you seen that Pfaff and Viking have come out with stitch regulators? Have you tried them? What do you think?

What does this Janome machine do that has you wanting it?

I have this one and Love it ! Did I Need it at the time - nope. Did I Want it - yes - and do I enjoy it - Yes Indeed :-)
I must add my old Pfaff was worn, but I could have squeezed it for a couple more years if I wanted to.

Beta isn't letting me sign in again. Oh well. I like that machine-is it computerized? I don't see a screen on it. I'm like you, all I sew is 1/4" seams. So I don't need a fancy machine, but I'd like the Pfaff built in walking foot.

What would you do with the old one? I think if there is someone you could give it to who would want it, then a sale price on the Janome is the universe's way of saying "Buy this, and let another quilter have your worthy old machine." That is just my rationalisation for buying new machinery - and I can always find people who need a machine. It also means that I don't have to extend the house to fit in everything I own!

Being tempted are you? Would you sell your old machines? Do you have room for this new machine? It would seem that you have a dilema. *LOL*

oh that need/want problem - when it comes to sewing machines, the want factor is sometimes more important than the need factor isn't it?

Well I guess it depends how high the fever goes and how much it takes to put it out huh? hehehe..if you have not treated yourself in a long time and have been eyeing that machine I say go for it! You passed by it for a reason!! I have the Janome and it is the dream machine. You will love it.

Buy the machine! I bought mine in April and I didn't think I would like it as much as my bernina 1230 but I love it. Has a quiet motor and it sews FAST - I'm a speed demon on the machine. The stitch quality is very nice too. I might even use a decorative stich every now and then! You will love the machine.

What do you particularly like about that machine? (Not that I NEED anything either.) Just curious. :)

If you want it, and you can afford it, get it. You can always sell one or two of the other machines. Life is short. Sew your 1/4" seams in the fast lane.

I notice that you're totally leaving out the word "deserve" You really deserve the machine. Hope that helps-having fun with the "hour" projects, dee in NY

I hope you're not looking to me to discourage you! LOL!

The machine I learned to quilt on was a Janome. It also had the embroidery package on it. I put it away when I bought my first Bernina, but pulled it out before Christmas last year to make teddy bears and embroidery names on them for Sally's grandgirls. I had forgotten how great that machine sews. I can't bring myself to get rid of it even though I've bought three Berninas since then.

Judy, honey, we both know you're gonna get it! ROLFOL! Can't wait to see a picture of it at home! :)

I just put those kinds of purchases in the "gotta have" file. When you walk in and they have your name on them...then they are gotta-haves!

Judy let me just say what my Aunt says when we all shop and someone says I don't "need" that....

She says "need stopped having anything to do with it a long time ago"! and she is right LOL....we all laugh, say your right and continue on with our shopping :O)...

She is just the best :O)....

Judy, I'm leaving a msg here because my email is down! I don't know if it is start-logic or what...even the logo for quilt mavs has disappeared because it is on my server, and I can't get mail, my page, or even ftp to open up! Is everything working on your side?

Frantic..

That's my primary machine now and I absolutely love it. I still have my Bernina but I'm in heaven with my 6600. You need to own one, Judy!

depends on what kind of machines you like babylock is coming out wiht a 'better one' right now you might want to check that one out first if you are a babylock girl. If not get that one. Only if you are not satisfied with what you have. It is clunky as someone told me. too bad you couldn't borrow someone's for a few days :)
